The Best Sauna Bucket for Home Saunas
The sauna bucket plays a crucial role in your sauna experience. It contains the liquid that is important for the infusion in the sauna. Since the bucket has to withstand great heat, this places high demands on the material and processing. It is therefore important that you choose the right bucket when buying and, in addition to the size, pay particular attention to the right material. We explain the advantages and disadvantages of the different materials so that you can find the best product for your needs.
Wood Sauna Bucket
The classic sauna bucket is made of wood. Wood absorbs the heat, but does not overheat. You can comfortably touch the bucket even during a very hot sauna session. But not all that glitters is always gold. The material also has decisive disadvantages: Even with the best glaze, water penetrates the coarse-pored wood. That does not mean that it is leaking. Even so, the wood will float up and you will occasionally need a new bucket. With optimal care, you can use the good piece for a relatively long time: Empty the bucket after each use and let it dry, so not too much water penetrates into the pores. Another problem appears when you use fragrances. They also penetrate the pores and can have a long-term effect. Changing scents is difficult with some particularly stubborn substances. After all, there is always a small residue of the old substance in the wood. You can easily prevent this by rinsing the bucket properly after each use. If you want to be on the safe side, choose a product that is with a plastic liner on the inside. However, this distorts the natural impression.
Metal Sauna Bucket
Copper has one major advantage over wood: the metal has no pores in which water can collect. In addition, such a sauna bucket is very easy to clean after using the infusion. All you have to do is rinse it with water and all residues are removed. In addition, a copper bucket looks very classy. This look only lasts for a long time if you seal the surface with a special paste. The metal has another disadvantage: it heats up very strongly. If the sauna is very hot, you may not be able to touch the bucket. It is therefore advisable to have a cloth ready as heat protection. Stainless steel is very robust and it retains its appearance for years, without any special care. That also justifies the comparatively high price. By the way, you won’t have any problems with cleaning the bucket. Simply rinse and the bucket is ready for the next use. However, stainless steel is also a metal. This means: the sauna bucket heats up very strongly.
Aluminum Sauna Bucket
As you can see, metal sauna buckets have many advantages. However, they also come at a price. If you want to get in a little cheaper, you can choose a bucket made of aluminum. Those buckets are light and don’t need much maintenance. But be careful: aluminum is also a metal. In order to always be able to touch the bucket, you should have a cloth ready in the sauna. Or you can try to find a model with wooden handles.
